History and Mission

Small World was founded in 1975 as a child care option to the local residents of the working class Italian American community. For over 40 years, Small World Early Childhood Center has provided full day child care to members of the North Williamsburg neighborhood.

In 1969, under the guidance of woman activist Jan Peterson, the CSBA founded Small World Child Care to bring services to children and parents in the community.

As the neighborhood changes we continue to follow and further develop the original mission which was to provide a safe and loving environment for children to develop, learn, and grow.

Many of the current staff attended Small World as students. Many of the current families attended the program when they were children. The community ambiance has helped create a nurturing and familiar atmosphere among the staff, students, and families.
